Pitney Bowes Welcomes Discount Proposal for Metered Mail

Pitney Bowes, the mail and communications specialist, has welcomed Royal Mail’s announcement that it is planning to give business customers a 1p discount off stamp prices if they use franking machines.

Royal Mail is aiming to introduce the discount from April 2005. The proposed 1p lower price for first class mail will also apply to business customers who send their mail in envelopes carrying a Printed Postage Impression (PPI).

The 1p price reduction for meter and PPI mail is a step towards bringing Royal Mail’s prices more in line with the actual costs of handling and delivering the mail.

Malcolm Bruce, Postal Solutions Director, Pitney Bowes, states: “Royal Mail’s planned new lower price will bring important savings to SME’s and will encourage businesses to benefit from the productivity and quality of the latest franking machine technology.

“The advantages of using franking machines to process mail are numerous. They are convenient. Postage funds can be automatically downloaded via phone or web, credit can be securely locked into the machine, marketing messages and advertising slogans can be effortlessly added to messages to create a professional, high-impact communication.

“Currently, meter mail and PPI customers pay full stamp prices and receive no discount. The Royal Mail discount will provide a further incentive for those forward-thinking businesses that want to boost their brand image, eliminate manual processes and manage the post operation securely and effortlessly.”
